Guess who?

Guess who was so excited for the Royal wedding as to get up at 5:40 this morning? Me!
Guess who slept through that as if that were no big deal? Z and Sasha ('cuz, honestly, it's really not that big of a deal, after all, but still)
Guess who thought the Prince and Princess were waving at them from the balcony of the Buckingham Palace? Sasha.
Guess who thought the Prince and Princess kissing was so cool? Sasha (even though looking at this picture, you might think she thought it was pretty gross, lol)
Guess who now wants to visit London? Sasha... ah, who am I kidding, all three of us do!

Guess who forgot to take pictures this morning? That's right, me, the crazy obsessive lady who always has her camera at the ready! When I realized this later, I turned the tv on, because I was sure that about half of the channels would still be showing parts of the wedding and took these (precious? funny? embarrassing? incriminating?) photos of the kiddo.
Guess who else got married today? My cousin Jenny! Unfortunately, we couldn't be there, but we're waiting with baited breath to hear about all the details. We do know that there was a beautiful custom-made dress involved. Congratulations to my beautiful cousin and her new husband!! Well, and to William and Kate too, of course.

Crazy family weekend

Because that's just how we roll, we had a ton of family craziness stuffed all into three days! Passover dinner on Friday evening at Z's parents' house, bridesmaids dress shopping on Saturday (a very very long day, but we did end up buying all our dresses, which are beautiful!), and my dad's birthday party (again) on Sunday. Pure awesomeness!

We watched some old home videos taken by Z's grandfather

Yup, we totally had matza right next to Easter eggs (my mom and her entire side of the family is Christian)!

Sasha helped my dad unwrap some presents
Of course, there was a pillow fight
Even my cousin got in on the fun!
And P.S. Looks like we're back to normal sleeping around here... wait, I mean, Sasha is back to normal sleeping: it appears that we haven't learned a thing and still stay up way too late, sigh.

Sleep update

I wanted to give a little update on Miss Sasha's sleeping issues. Day 2 of (re)ferberizing was the hardest, since then we haven't had to go in to her room at bedtime after putting her down. And since Tuesday, she's only woke up once at night and then put herself back to sleep within a minute. So yeah, looks like Dr. Ferber has done it again!!! We do have a slightly stricter bedtime routine, I even made a fun colorful chart for her to follow all the steps. She adores the chart, she says it's her present from mama and papa!!
We're busy busy busy this weekend: yesterday, we had a Passover dinner at my in-laws' house, today I'm off to Long Island to go dress shopping for my sister's wedding (this time for the bridesmaids), and tomorrow is my dad's birthday party.

You know what sucks?

Toddlers who don't sleep well, that's what! Let me preface this by saying that Sasha has been a fantastic sleeper since she was about 5 months old (granted she went through a horribly four-month wakeful period when I was up with her nearly once an hour for a month straight!) This latest phase started a couple of weeks ago when she got her stomach virus. After coming home from a weekend at my parents' house, she'd wake up multiple times a night, for no apparent reason. She'd also stall bedtime, asking for more water, more kisses, more hugs, more trips to the bathroom (and how can you refuse a potty-training child a trip to the bathroom?)
Then one day the night wakings stopped. For all of three nights, sigh. And came back with a vengeance on Sunday night when she was up 4 times. It's really a good thing I don't work because otherwise I'd be a zombie at work and probably get myself fired! So it seems that, according to our old friend Dr. Ferber, who helped us deal with the four-month wakeful period, she's formed a crappy habit of asking for things at bedtime and getting her way, which may in turn have been leading to her waking up asking for the same things.
Last night was night 1 of sleep (re)training and it went very peacefully: we kept her up a little bit later, followed our bedtime routine to the T, and she went to bed without any demands. And woke up only once! Tonight was harder: she cried for about 10 minutes, I went in to her room twice, she cried a few more minutes and then all was quiet. We're crossing our fingers that she'll sleep through the night. I'm exhausted!
And to close off this (very) wordy post, here are some pictures from tonight:

Happy birthday, dad!

Yesterday was my dad's birthday, but since we're all pretty much either sick or getting over something, the party was moved to next weekend, but we had to go see my dad and hang out today.
Somehow, all the pictures of my dad are on my parents' camera, so I'll have to wait to get them back to post them.
Happy birthday, dad!!

Back from the doctor

Went to the pediatrician this morning, only to be told that Sasha does in fact have a stomach virus. Ick! So we're attempting to feed her rice, applesauce, and toast. And everything bland. You wouldn't believe how difficult it is to get her to eat these things... ok, maybe you would. She refuses practically everything. Crackers might work though... She hasn't thrown up or had bad diarrhea or fever in the last two days,  so I'm hoping that it's already going away.
Now, there's a question of how highly contagious this thing is: yup, that's right, now I have it too! This totally sucks, so we're vegging out on the couch and eating small portions of bland foods. Z did have to come back this morning though to accompany us to the doctor since I was feeling so so bad, for which I am so grateful! Tomorrow, I was supposed to go see my sister's wedding dress which just came in to the store, but now will reluctantly give that job up to my mom - I was so excited too!
Here's hoping this thing goes away by the weekend - we have some fun plans!!

Beautiful day with my girl

Despite Sasha's latest sickness (although in my defense, she was feeling great today, had no fever and was in a wonderful mood), we went outside for a bit, since it was in the 70's and I just couldn't pass that up. Little Miss refused to take off the skirt she was wearing at home and I needed to get some pants on her, so we compromised...

I really hope that spring is here to stay, we're all sooo ready for nicer weather!!

I guess I spoke too soon

So as I sat there last night typing up my last blogpost about how much fun Sasha was having at my parents' house, the poor little thing was apparently sick! My mom told me this morning that our little kiddo threw up, twice, in the middle of the night and woke up with a fever this morning. Yikes! I was so nervous about her napping I put her in our bed (so that I could check up on her), and what do you know, she fell right asleep there. We have a doctor appointment on Tuesday morning, until then -lots of soups, yogurts, mashed up food (aka baby food), bananas, and everything soft. Hopefully it's a quick thing and will go away in no time!!
And in the meantime, we're doing a lot of snuggling!

What a beautiful day!

Z had two wisdom teeth extracted on Friday, so the kiddo's been staying at my parents' house for the weekend. While feeding Z antibiotics (and following them up with probiotics), I decided we needed to get out on this beautiful spring day. First we went to the movies, and I drove (for those not familiar with my learning to drive saga, it's a big big deal!), then for a nice long walk on the bay.

Z is starting to feel a bit better, no doubt thanks to our little outing today (and maaaybe the meds), and not to worry, Sasha's having a grand old time hanging out with my parents. We talked to her on the phone a few times today, which apparently is her new favorite thing in the whole world. She gets so excited and tells me everything she's been doing and what grandma did and what grandpa said, and then she asks me how papa's teeth are and if he's still sick. Too cute!!

Big girl and her trike

We took Sasha's trike for a test drive yesterday, since the weather seems to be getting better. Kiddo has been pedaling it around the apartment for weeks now, but I wasn't sure how she'd do outside for longer distances. She wouldn't let me touch the handle! Except for crossing the street, she pedaled the trike all by herself!! I was so proud of her!

Party weekend

We had a wonderful weekend filled with friends and family. We had two parties: Saturday was a friends' housewarming and Sunday, we hosted a party for my mother-in-law's birthday.

Yum! Good food, good company (x2), great weekend!
